GARY MICHEL

Senior Vice President, Executive Advisor

Gary S. Michel is a Senior Vice President and Executive Advisor at Lean Focus. Gary recently retired as chair and chief executive officer of JELD-WEN, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of building products with nearly 25,000 employees in North America, Europe, and Australasia. Gary has more than 37 years of strategy, business transformation, operations, and lean manufacturing leadership experience. He has a proven track record for accelerating business growth and delivering strong financial results by creating premier performing, values-based organizations.


He joined JELD-WEN in 2018 from Honeywell International, Inc., where he served as the president and chief executive officer of the Home and Buildings Technologies strategic business group.

Prior to joining Honeywell, he spent 33 years at Ingersoll-Rand, serving as a member of the company’s executive leadership team as senior vice president and president of its residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning business (Trane). He began his career as an application engineer and held various product, sales, and business management roles before moving into a series of leadership positions across various geographic and market segments. His industry experiences are broad including industrial, commercial, residential, construction and consumer segments including leading iconic brands like Trane, American Standard, Club Car, Ingersoll Rand, ABG and Blaw Knox, to name a few.


Gary holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He served as a member of the board of directors of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company from 2015-2021, until it was acquired by Goodyear.


Gary is active in the Charlotte community – home of JELD-WEN’s global headquarters and inspired his associates to be engaged with the communities in which they live and work. He serves on the board of the American Heart Association and Samaritan’s Feet and has guided philanthropic efforts including support of St. Jude Dream Homes, Atrium Health’s Levine Cancer Institute, and the local arts community in Charlotte through the Foundation for the Carolinas. He is a member of the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council.
